Names of God Part 1

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Revelation 12:11 They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.

This week’s verse speaks of Christ’s finished work on the cross, paying for our sin. We cannot help but speak with thankful hearts for what He has done for us. Sometimes though, we may draw a blank of ways to share with others, how great He is.

Friends, lets dive into scripture together and discover 4 of the Names of God as revealed in Psalm 23:1-3.

We understand that God is never changing. He is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. (Numbers 23:19, Hebrews 13:8, James 1:17)
By this we can base our decisions, to trust Him no matter what situation we’re facing.

The following table lists some Old Testament Names of God translated from Hebrew; the language of the Israelites. It lists where they’re found in Psalm 23, along with other references. Lastly I describe one of the many times He’s been faithful to His Names for me.

Jehovah Roi –
The LORD is my Shepherd
Jehovah Jireh –
The LORD Shall Provide
Jehovah Shalom –
The LORD our Peace
Jehovah Rophe –
The LORD Our Healer
Psalm 23: 1
The Lord is my shepherd…
Psalm 23:1
… I lack nothing.
Psalm 23:2
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
Psalm 23:3
he refreshes my soul…
Genesis 48:15
Isaiah 40:11
Ezekiel 34:31
Luke 12:32
Gen 22:13-14
Matthew 6:11
John 6:35
Philippians 4:11-13
Judges 6:22-24
Philippians 4:8-9
Exodus 15:22-25
1 Corinthians 15:42-49
I’m telling you, this sheep, (pointing to me) needs some serious redirection sometimes! I’m so grateful for His correction and protection. Our God provided a way for me to stay with my husband during moving cross-continental, when the likelihood looked impossible.I felt the Lord’s peace about telling someone a difficult truth, He gave me the peace to know things would work out, and they did.One time while seeking the Lord over the Beattitudes in Matthew 5:3-12, the Lord healed me of my chronic nose-bleeds.

Now, ask the Lord (if He’s not already doing so) to remind your heart, times He’s revealed these qualities of His character to you in a personal way.

Friends, it’s great to share what God has done for us personally, with zeal and excitement.

Others will see the beauty and sureness of our personal relationship with the Lord. Perhaps they’ll remember what God has done specifically for them. If they don’t know the Lord, they will want a personal relationship too!

Lord, My Lord, thank-you for who You are, good and unchanging. Thank-you for revealing Yourself in my life through experiences with You. You are not only God the Creator. You are My God, My Shepherd, My Provider, My Peace and My Healer. ~Amen
