John 15:5 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.
After a leadership meeting, I felt overwhelmed with the looming school semester. Extra responsibilities arise, with church, leadership positions for the kids and extracurricular activities. All the duties we sign up for are beneficial to us and the beloved ones around us.
But, if I’m not laden with juicy fruit of the Spirit, at it’s peek for picking… it’s all worth nothing! If I’m running ragged with stress and worry written on my face, I’m not making following Christ look appealing. The fruit I speak of comes from Galatians 5:22-23, love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.
Today’s verse reminds us we need to connect to Jesus, the true vine, or else we cannot bear fruit.
By these extra stresses approaching, I am reminded kindly by Christ, to be connected in prayer, and in deed. If we don’t love, all our efforts are worth nothing.
When crazy busy, even if it’s doing ‘God’s work’, it can be easy to forget to stay connected to Jesus through prayer. Other times however, when it gets too crazy, prayer is a proven necessity.
Dear Jesus, when I’m drowning in good deeds, let me be swamped in Your love. May your love abide in me always. Fill me with all the fruit of Your Spirit, so I can be a better reflection of You. ~Amen.

I also love the illustration in Psalm 1:3 They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.
