Strong Roots

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Jeremiah 17:8 They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit.

As the hurricane winds ripped through our backyard, we watched the trees toss and twist. The giant sails they were, I marveled at how extensive the roots must be.

Sure, winds usually blow when storms hit, but this was probably the strongest winds they’ve stood against.

I love the comfort that comes from today’s verse. Our roots reach deep into the living water of God’s word, quenching our spiritual thirst.

The best thing about this verse – it comes with a promise! They “are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit.” How wonderful!

When we’re attached to the Living Water, we will endure through all trials, and produce the fruit of the Spirit. (Galatians 5:22-23)

I am reminded of Jesus, in total control of the storm. (Mark 4:35-41) He rebuked not only the wind and waves, but the disciples also, for having little faith. He prepares us for eternity by the winds and storms of life. Through trials our roots grow deeper into Jesus, our foundation.

James 1:12 Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.

Loving Father, we lift up our brothers and sisters on the east side of the storm. We pray for those ravaged with the gift of desperation, they would turn to the Lord most High, find blessings in this storm, and bless His Holy Name. Lord, we thank-you for the storms in life. May we fix our eyes on You, and find joy during hard times ~Amen

Planted by the rivers of water,
