On a Time Crunch

Matthew 6:33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. (NIV)

It was ‘school spirit night’, a fundraiser at a restaurant for our kid’s elementary. In between getting kids to where they had to be, we pulled into the parking lot.

“Ok kids, what do you want to eat? We have 15min to get in and out”
“Lord, please help us get to our meeting on-time”
With both drive-thru lanes wrapped around the corner. I thought I’d try walking in. Amazingly, I was only 2nd in line. By the time I collected our order, the line inside was full. Sure enough, 6 o’clock on the dot, we were back on the road toward the 6:30 meeting.

Who else marvels at God’s provision? God is so faithful.

Today’s verse is all about priorities. Family, work, vacation planning, working out, or other non-sinful activities can inconspicuously gain first place. Jesus reminds us to actively choose to make Him and His agenda our number one.

When we align our agenda with God’s, He promises to line everything else up. What an amazing promise!

Just think of all the times Jesus provided food for those who came to hear Him preach. Turning a small snack into a buffet was not unusual for Him. In Matthew 14:13-21, Jesus feeds 5,000 men (in addition to all the women and children). In Matthew 15:32-29, Jesus feeds 4,000 men (in addition to all the women and children).

Not taking this promise out of context, things can sometimes seem messed up from our limited perspective. It can seem like God dropped the ball on something. But seriously, He’s perfect. He’s the only one who sees everything, and orchestrates it according to His plan. By this we can deduce, if we experience a ‘set back’, we can trust He has a greater plan.

Ephesians 2:10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

That’s so exciting to know He’s got the plan. Let’s follow Him, and His plan! He’s already worked out the details, to play out in His timing.

I’m always amazed (but not surprised) to hear the ways God provides for His people in ministry. A repeat praise report is – they needed a certain amount of money, and right before the deadline, God pulls through with the exact amount.

How are your priorities lately? How have you seen God providing for needs in amazing ways? Please share in the comments below!

Holy Father, we thank-You for Your promise to take care of us when we seek to advance your kingdom first! We praise You for Your encouragement of provision to help us carry out the good deeds You planned for us in advance. ~Amen.
