Ephesians 2:10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
The sizzling sausages sure smelled good grilling that frosty morning. Looking in my purse, I had no cash on me. The minimum purchase was $10 to run my card. It didn’t matter to me. Those sausages looked premium. I could just get a couple extra’s to make the difference. Not to worry, I knew God had something in the works. I just didn’t know what yet.
As I sat down on the bleachers by my girls, this was a no brainer. I handed the couple extra to their friends behind them.
“Thank-you” they smiled with a surprised look on their faces.
“You’re welcome” I replied quickly.
Later I realized, I took the bait of taking credit myself, when I didn’t mention it wasn’t my idea. They received sausages, because I couldn’t get mine without it!
Today’s verse finally clicked for me. It was blatantly obvious that God planned this good deed. For, I never though to buy extra’s for their friends. I’m just not that thoughtful!
Then it occurred to me. How many times has God planned good things for me to do, that I’ve taken the credit for? — It’s all Him!
Have you ever responded to someone, “Ah, it’s nothing”? Because it really was nothing for you? God placed you there at just the right time? God provided the means and the way? His was the nudge of kindness?
God provided the exact amount needed. And I even got to enjoy one of those super yummy sausages!
Lord, make us alert to spot good works You have in store. Make us quick to bounce praise off of ourselves and point it back to You. For Yours is the glory. ~Amen
