Psalm 139:4 Before a word is on my tongue you, LORD, know it completely.
With soapy hands invested in a sink full of dishes, I hear my daughter’s call from the shower.
I dry my hands on the kitchen towel, and start making my way to see what’s up.
“Muuuum” I’m still on my way.
“Muuuum” as I’m walking through the door.
“Muuuum” I’m standing right there.
“What’s up sweet girl?”
Did my daughter know I was coming at her first call? Perhaps she expected I was far from her and it would take me forever to come to her aid. It is loud in the shower, so it’s hard to hear a response from the other room. Sure, I’m still human, I may have been preoccupied or out of ears width. She just kept calmly yelling my name till I arrived.
This simple mothering incident reminded me of answered prayers. The ones I doubted God’s ear was attentive to. Perhaps even the ones I didn’t realize God was answering by being too focused on my problem and solution. Perhaps my life at times, like the shower, is too loud to hear His voice.
We know as believers, God is our Father, and cares for our needs. (Matthew 6:26 ) It just blows my mind how the Creator of the Universe chose to adopt us as His precious children! (Ephesians 1:5, 2 Corinthians 6:18) He gave us ears to hear our kids requests, just as He hears ours!
Today’s verse assures us, God knows exactly what motivates us. He knows our needs, I would assume, even before we know of them. At the first cry from a humble heart, the Lord is already on His way. He’s already set up the answer, even if we don’t see it immediately. (Daniel 10:12-14)
In the same Psalm, 139:16 Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.
Wow. Nothing surprises Him. That on top of His compassion to care for us, even to know us so intimately as a Father, Husband, Teacher, Helper, Guide and many other love-filled descriptions He gives in His Word. Have you ever stopped to ponder, not just that God is all-knowing but that He CARES to know. He purposefully made us, just to know us and love us completely. (Genesis 1:26, John 3:16)
John 15:13 Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
Considering God made us from dust, having right perspective of our place as His clay, it’s astounding that He chose to love us so perfectly.
My daughter’s persistent call proved she knew eventually I’d come. She knew she wasn’t abandoned in a tight bind. And our God will never leave nor forsake us! (Hebrews 13:5) He will answer. We can trust in His perfect timing.
Lamentations 2:22-23 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
Heavenly Father, Your steadfast love endures forever!
Thank-you for knowing me completely, and still loving me.
You were pleased to make us Your own.
Great is thy faithfulness!
Hebrews 10:24-25 And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
What’s the point of finding comfort in our Lord? Not just to praise Him, but to show our appreciation to Him by sharing His awesome generosity with others!
2 Corinthians 1:3-5 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ.
How has the Lord comforted you?
How has the Lord known your need, and come to your aid?
I’d really love to hear from you, and perhaps we’d be privileged enough to see His hand in YOUR story on an upcoming blogpost! 😄
