Next to Christmas and Easter, Thanksgiving is near and dear to my heart. Growing up in Australia, I loved the idea of sitting around the family table holding hands and giving thanks to God. Our gracious God grants us the desires of our hearts. Now mealtime is an awesome daily opportunity to offer thanksgiving to God. And Thanksgiving offers the same, yet with an extra portion of jubilation for the remembrance of what God has done for us.
Remember the wonders he has done, his miracles,
and the judgements he pronounced. Give praise to the LORD,
proclaim his name; make known among the nations what he has done.
~ Psalm 105:5,1
We praise-You, Father, for stirring up thanksgiving in our hearts. Encourage our remembrance of how You hand scooped us from our miry graves. You gave us clean garments, washed by Your precious blood. You turned our hearts around, fixing our eyes firmly upon you. You refocus our desires away from the whims of this world — fleeting pleasures that last but a moment. We exchange it all for You, our First True Love. And now our lips can’t help but proclaim Your name! (Ephesians 2:1-6, Isaiah 61:10, Revelation 2:4)
Give thanks to the Lord for He is Good. His love endures forever.
LORD, Thank-You. You are so relational! Your enduring love shines on me personally! Lord, bring to mind specific times You revealed Your faithfulness this year! Let me marvel at the things You’ve done. Things I don’t deserve. Good things. Even hard circumstances You’ve used for my good and Your glory. Let me ponder on Your goodness and give thanks with joy. Nothing compares to Your loving embrace, Your forgiveness and mercy. Lord, You are always enough to satisfy me. Thank-You for abundant pleasures that rest in our living hope. (Romans 8:28, 2 Corinthians 12:9, 1 Peter 1:3, Psalm 16:11)
Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father
of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.
Father — Giver of all good gifts. Lord, EVERYTHING we have comes from Your loving hand. Thank-You for gifting us with Your Holy Spirit. Thank-You for our loved ones and the fellowship with have within the Body of Christ. Although our situations are constantly changing, we can rely on You, Our Rock, Who never changes. Our Father, Your lessons and testing sting but for a moment, and reap a harvest of righteousness. Lord, ever increase our growth in Your grace and truth. (Job 2:10, Ephesians 1:13, Hebrews 12:11, 2 Peter 3:18)
Let all that I am praise the LORD;
may I never forget the good things he does for me.
Loving Father, it’s human nature to forget and start to complain. Let me not forget You cut off portions of Israel in the wilderness when they grumbled. (Psalm 106:14,15, 21) No matter what I face, these momentary pains cannot compare with the hight of Your glorious presence. I praise You Lord, for saving my soul. You are my assurance, refuge and strength, an ever-present help in times of trouble. My heart spills with thanksgiving unto You, Lord. You Who called me, are faithful. You will complete the work You started in me. May Joy bubble up and overflow, so others will know of Your goodness. (Psalm 23:5:6, Psalm 62:2, 2 Corinthians 4:17-18, Psalm 46:1, 1 Thessalonians 5:24)
Dear faithful Reader, May your thanksgiving week be filled with gratitude that shines like the sun among loved ones who may not know our Amazing God.
When troubles come your way, Rest in Thank-Ville.
