The In-Betweens

1 Thessalonians 5:17 pray without ceasing,

Walking over the drawstring bridge, I left my cabin for a purpose. — Head to the cafeteria to check if the 1st-aid folks have zyrtec for my seasonal allergies. Next I planned to treck to the car to fetch my portable battery pack to charge my phone overnight. The ladies had nothing for seasonal allergies, except Benadryl.
“That’s ok”, I thought, “It’s been pretty drizzly to knock the allergens out of the air. I should be ok without it.”

As I turned to leave, a lady gave me a message for the girls over in my cabin area.

Thinking I still had to collect my charger, I quietly mentioned it to the Lord. He answered me with a friendly reminder — my charger was in my bag in the cabin.
“Oh, thank-you, Lord”, I praised Him in reply.

Neither of my felt ’to-do’s’ amounted to anything physical in my hand just then. Though something better came out of it. Not only did God save me a trip to the car. He also allowed me to serve Him by delivering a message! I was so thankful He used me in such a simple way. Probably an answered prayer from the ministry team while trying to organize the legwork at the conference.

That was the weekend I had the privilege of attending a Bible Leadership Training camp.

I find it so easy to connect with the Lord during the highs and lows. But what about the in-betweens. What about the crazy busy times? The times I aim to tackle my to-do list, knocking random jobs off? What about when I find myself running on self, during a comfortable routine activity.
“Lord, forgive me”.

God has really been drawing me lately to spend every moment with Him. No matter what moment, as today’s verse reminds us, we are to be in constant communication with our Father.

Today’s verse is so simple and so challenging.

Sometimes I pray for for the Lord to enable me to fully rely on God, to teach me to commune with Him, whatever it takes. Then He reminds me to thank Him for times of frustration, that He uses to refocus my eyes onto Him. I just love when I experience His peace and presence in the midst of things I can’t control. Hey, whatever it takes! That leads into the next verse; ‘give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus’. It’s a tweak in our perspective, to see a glimpse of how tremendously good our God is. He can use ANYTHING for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. (Romans 8:28)

My quick conversation with the Lord turned out a blessing to me, as He answered. More amazingly, He allowed me to see His hand at work through a mundane errand.

Let’s take a quick peek at how we GET TO talk to the amazing God who created the heavens and the earth. It’s all because Christ made a way, becoming the perfect sacrifice for our sin. A sin debt we couldn’t pay. Access we couldn’t gain by works, for nothing was good enough… only Christ was worthy! (Genesis 1:1, John 14:6, 2 Corinthians 5:21, Galatians 3:13, Ephesians 2:8-9)

Matthew 27:51 At that moment [the moment Christ gave His life for ours] the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split

That’s the curtain that separated people from the Holy of Holy’s, where God presence dwelled with man. During the time of the physical temple, only the jewish high priest could enter behind the curtain. He could only enter once a year, to bring animal sacrifice for payment of the people’s sin. All that blood was never enough, even repeated over and over. Jesus paid with His own blood, once for all — Judicially fulfilling the requirement for blood sacrifice. (Hebrews 9:3-4, Hebrews 10:1-20)

Now we’re free. Free to speak freely to the God of the Universe. (Hebrews 4:16)

Most importantly, our relationship with God has been restored, through and in Christ. And THAT’s the price God paid for us, not only to allow us to talk to God, but also be in His presence forever. So we can…

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

I have found time and time again, when I live in these few verses, I experience Christ’s presence and unfailing love. There’s no better place to be, than in my Father’s presence, through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Lord, forgive me for forgetting to be in constant communication with You. Your passion for me is astounding. You formed me from dust, and plucked me from my own personal mire. You chased me down with your steadfast love till I begged for You to enter my heart. I asked You repeatedly, though You’d already entered and began Your good work in me. Lord, I am Yours. You care for me in such an intimate way. Fill me with Your presence and enable me to tune my ear toward Your voice. Lord, enable me to willingly submit to You in all things, in all circumstances. ~Amen.

Hey Faithful Reader, If you haven’t already, I challenge you to memorize:
